Canada-based Nigerian researcher raises N1.125million reward to anyone with evidence of casualties from the Lekki tollgate incident

  A Canada-based Nigerian researcher, Bayo Adedosu, has raised N1.125 million reward to anyone with evidence of casualties from the shooting incident that occurred at the Lekki tollgate.   On October 20, Army officers stormed the Lekki toll plaza during #EndSARS protest which resulted in chaos. While the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu claims only 2 casualties were recorded at the scene of the incident, DJ Switch who was at the scene when the shooting occurred, alleged that over 15 bodies were dumped at the feet of the soldiers who fired gunshots at them.   Bayo says he is seeking the truth about the incident. He too to his Twitter handle over the weekend to pledge N50, 000 reward for anyone who can provide credible evidence about the casualties. He later announced that N 1. 125 million has now been raised to give anyone with proof.   Read his tweets below

UAE approves 10 years golden visa to all PHD holders

  Vice President/Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Sunday November 15 announced that the UAE "golden" visa system has been widened.    Maktoum said the   United Arab Emirates (UAE) has approved a 10-year golden visa for all PhD holders based in the country and has also   approved same for graduates who have a minimum of 3.8 grade point average from UAE-accredited universities.   The golden visa residency was also extended to specialists in Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, virology, epidemiology and UAE-based physicians and engineers in the fields of computer science, electronics and programming, electricity and biotechnology.   The tweet read;    Today, we approved granting the 10-year Golden Visa to all PhD holders in the UAE. MOPOL Inspector rapes 13-year-old student in Benue

  A Mobile Police Inspector identified simply as John has been arrested and detained at Ugba Police Station over the rape of a 13-year-old female student in Ayilamo, Tombo ward of Logo Local Government Area in Benue State.   The community leader in Ayilamo, Hon Wuam Hilega said the incident occurred at about 5pm on Thursday November 12.   The   Nigerian Army has denied using live ammunition on unarmed #EndSARS protesters during the shooting which occurred at Lekki Tollgate on October 20.    Brig.-Gen.   The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has expressed intense displeasure with news that his administration has imposed a tax on individual loaves of bread to be paid by bakeries and bread sellers in the state.   Last week, the media was awash with news that the state government has imposed a levy on every loaf of bread in the state.   The Nigerian army has expressed its disappointment with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's insistence on not inviting them to intervene in the #EndSARS crisis in Lagos state.    Brigadier AI Taiwo who shared the Nigerian army's account of the Lekki Toll Gate Shooting at the resumed sitting of the Lagos judicial panel on Saturday November 14, stated that Governor Sanwo-Olu called on the military for support on October 20 after the #EndSARS crisis degenerated into "violence."   He said;    “I spoke with the governor and said the army was unhappy that he said he did not ask the army to intervene.   The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, said teachers without requisite qualifications, competencies and practicing license are presently migrating out of the Nigerian Teaching Service. He disclosed this on Saturday in Abuja while monitoring the conduct of the 2020 October Diet Batch B Teachers’ Professional Qualifying Examinations, (PQE). “By 2021, we will not engage teachers if they don’t meet particular threshold, we are now limiting entry point of teaching only to the best who are qualified, we will engage individuals with second class upper and first class divisions,” he said.

Youth members return to Lagos panel

Rinu Oduola and Temitope Majekodunmi, the youth members of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry resumed sitting on Saturday November 14, after boycotting the panel for over a week in protest against the freezing of their bank accounts and that of other #EndSARS promoters by the Central Bank of Nigeria.   A Magistrate Court in Abuja on Friday ordered the Police to investigate 50 End SARS protesters. They are accused of playing active roles in the agitaion. They include Aisha Yesufu, David Adeleke – Davido, Ayodeji Balogun – Wizkid, Deji Adeyanju, Sam Adeyemi, Ayo Sogunro, Tiwa Savage, Dipo Awojide, Folarin Falana – Falz, Modupe Odele – Moe, Feyikemi Abudu – FK. Micheal Ajereh – Don Jazzy, Peter Okoye, Paul Okoye, Rinu Oduala, Innocent Idibia – 2baba, Kanu Nwankwo, Joe Abah, Kiki Mordi, Tope Akinyode, Adebola Williams, Yul Edochie, Bankole Wellington. Former Croatian PM jailed for masterminding an embezzlement network

  Ivo Sanader, a former Croatian Prime Minister, was handed an 8-year jail sentence after being found guilty of siphoning millions of euros from public funds in a long-running corruption case. Sanader, however, denied the allegations and is expected to appeal his conviction to a higher court. Currently, the former prime minister is currently serving a prison sentence for another corruption case and will also be required to pay 15.8 million kunas (N950m) once the verdict becomes final.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) has emphasised that one of Nigeria’s most pressing priorities is obtaining the COVID-19 vaccine for the citizens. He stated this on Thursday, at the opening session of the virtual edition of the Paris Peace Forum, which featured presentations by some Heads of State & Governments alongside international organisations, on a collective response to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Mr. Laolu Akande, Osinbajo also said the government is preoccupied with improving healthcare and the economy post-COVID-19. “The priorities of Nigeria in the post-COVID-19 era include improved healthcare and the economy. First, we need to keep the virus under control. While our guards are still firmly in place, getting the COVID-19 vaccine is a matter of utmost concern,” he said.

ASUU Strike: We Are Going Back To The Negotiation Table, Says Ngige

  The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, says he will be going back to the negotiation table with leaders of the Senior Staff Association of Universities (SSANU) and other stakeholders in the education sector to ensure that the current impasse is resolved. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Senator Ngige said he is optimistic that the disagreement with the lecturers will be resolved. “Even if countries go to war, at the end of the day you come back to the negotiation table,” the minister said. Ngige further stated that he will be inviting ASUU in the coming week, adding that there have been government side meetings where collations are being made to ensure that all pertinent data and pending issues are brought to the place of negotiation.
