Groom wears traditional Efik attire for his church wedding in Akwa Ibom

 A groom, Akai Imo wore traditional Efik attire for his white wedding in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, while his partner, Osita Sandra Uju wore a white ball dress.

 

The groom's attire consists of a wrapper called Usobo, a long white shirt and a woolen cap. The wedding which took place on December 20, was titled "Local Love 2020"

 

The groom is popularly known as "Local Man"  a University of Uyo graduate.

Strike: FG plans legal action against ASUU

  The federal government has threatened to institute legal actions against the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU over the protracted strike. Labour and Employment Minister, Chris Ngige, issued the threat at the end of about a three-hour meeting with the leadership of the union in Abuja. Both parties in their characteristic manner, expressed hope of an end to the industrial action in their opening remarks. But after more than two hours behind closed doors, ASUU insists nothing new was put on the table. In an interview with newsmen, the Minister said government may be forced to file a legal case against the striking University teachers to arrest the stalemate. ASUU is asking the Federal Government to release N110 billion for revitalisation. But the government, two weeks ago, offered to release N20 billion for revitalisation. Suspect breaks into warehouse in Kano, steals N8m goods

  The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspect who broke into a warehouse located at Tal'udu Quarters and stole goods worth N8m.     Spokesperson of the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, December 24, said the suspect, Salmanu Mohammed Bashir, 36, confessed to the crime.    The suspect revealed how he damaged the padlock, replaced it with a new one of the same colour and size.    "On the 27/11/2020 at about 1020hrs, a report was lodged that a Hijet Pick-up Motor Vehicle with Reg. ASUU/FG Impasse: NANS Plans Nationwide Protest, Court Action

  The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has resolved to organise a nationwide mass protest to press home its demand for the immediate reopening of all universities across the country. This is part of resolutions reached in a communiqué is­sued on Wednesday in Enugu after NANS students’ leaders emergency virtual meeting held on November 9.  The communiqué said that the continued strike was an organised crime against stu­dents’ career and educational pursuits. It said that NANS with no hesitation declares 14-day ultimatum for both parties (ASUU and FG) to resolve their impasse for campuses to re-open or risk mass protest. Why Finland’s education system is best — TRCN boss

  Abuja— Finland has the best education system in the world, says the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Professor Josiah Ajiboye.   Ajiboye added that Finland’s system is of high quality because they placed the “learner at the centre of education and the quality of their teachers is top-notch.” Ajiboye said that the Finland model is what Nigeria should emulate. He said these at a briefing on Tuesday in Abuja, where he also revealed that no fewer than 17,606 teachers across the country are to sit for the 2020 qualifying examinations billed for November 12 to 14. According to Ajiboye, the figure (17,606) is a drop from over 40,000 recorded in the previous examination and that the number of batches also reduced from three to two, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Governor Yahaya Bello vehemently denies approving new levy on bread in the state

  The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has expressed intense displeasure with news that his administration has imposed a tax on individual loaves of bread to be paid by bakeries and bread sellers in the state.   Last week, the media was awash with news that the state government has imposed a levy on every loaf of bread in the state. Following the outcry, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, came out to explain that the new levy was imposed in order to protect indigenous bakers from those “who bring bread to the state without paying any form of levy”. Gunmen in army uniform assassinate Kogi LG vice chairman's husband

  Gunmen suspected to be assassins have killed Ishaku Gata, husband of the vice chairman of Kogi local government council of Kogi State, Hon. Hassana JB Ishaku.  It was gathered that Gata and one other person identified as Joshua Jonah were shot dead by five gunmen in army uniform while returning from farm at Tanahu community.  Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, a member of the victim's family, who survived the attack, David Jerry, said he was returning from the farm with the deceased when five armed men laid ambush on them around 9:48 am on Tuesday.    According to Jonah, five of them including the deceased, boarded motorcycles to the farm to harvest sesame seeds, when the gunmen laid ambush on them.    Jerry said he and two of his brothers managed to escape through the bush and trekked about two kilometers before arriving at neighbouring Adabo village.    “Two of my other brothers and I had to trek two kilometers inside...
