We’ll never allow another violent #EndSARS protest again'- IGP Adamu Mohammed says

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Adamu Mohammed, says going forward the force will never allow another type of #EndSARS protest again.   The police chief stated this when he spoke at a meeting with commissioners of police in Abuja today November27. He said the force is ready to face anyone who organises or participates in such protests across the country.   “Remember, even our constitution does not accept violent protests, so, those people that are planning to come up with another protest, if they’ve planned it to be a violent one, they should re-think, otherwise, we have prepared to face them. We will never allow this type of #EndSARS protests again. It was violent. Peaceful protest is allowed in our constitutions. When this process started peacefully, we provided security for them. House of Reps speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, visits family of vendor shot dead by his Security aide (photos)

  Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has visited the family of Ifeanyi Okereke, the newspaper vendor who was shot dead by one of his security aides in Abuja last Thursday, November 18.     Gbajabiamila condoled with the wife and family of the late vendor at Kwata village, Madalla-Suleja, Niger State and pledged to ensure justice is served. After the incident, the  speaker released a statement  in which he pledged to cater to the wife and the immediate family he left behind. He also identified the security aide as Abdullahi Hassan, whom the SSS has since detained.

  Manchester city manager, Pep Guardiola, has admitted that Jose Mourinho's side, Tottenham are favorites to win the English Premier league and shouldn't be taken lightly.   Pep Guardiola made the comment after Tottenham inflicted a 2-0 win over Manchester City on Saturday November 21. Since arriving at City in 2016, Guardiola has helped the club win two Premier League titles . The other two titles were won by Chelsea by seven points in 2016-17 and Liverpool by 18 last season but Guardioal feels this may be the most open title race since his arrival in England.   City sit 11th in the table, eight points behind league leaders Spurs but have played one less game.   With just 10 goals scored through eight league games, this is City's worst return.   "They are top of the league.   Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has mocked the Nigerian Army over the different accounts they have given regarding their involvement in the October 20 shooting incident at the Lekki tollgate.   Reacting via his Twitter handle, Reno wrote;   ''The @HQNigerianArmy’s account of their involvement in #LekkiMassacre is as straight as Bob Risky. It is as constantly changing as the complexion of some Nollywood actresses. It is as real as a #BBNaija female housemate’s backside. They took license for lie-sense!''  

#EndSARS: Lagos Judicial panel continues to examine CCTV footage from Lekki tollgate on October 20

The Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up by the Lagos state government, continued to examine the October 20 CCTV footage from the Lekki tollgate.   The panel was constituted to investigate police brutality and also the shooting incident at the Lekki tollgate on Tuesday, October 20.   At today's sitting, the panel continued to review the CCTV footage obtained from the Lekki Concession Company for October 20.   The footage reviewed showed that the scene was calm until about 6.43pm when people could be seen running towards the tollgate from the Oriental Hotel end. Two minutes later, at 6.45pm, military trucks with flashing headlights arrived the scene.   The Nigerian army has admitted bringing live bullets to Lekki tollgate where a controversial shooting took place on October 20, 2020.    Ibrahim Taiwo, commander of the 81 division of the Nigerian Army confirmed this while being cross examined by Olumide Fusika, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) before the Lagos judicial panel on Saturday November 21.    Taiwo who said the live bullets was for the protection of the army team that was deployed to restore order in the area, averred that the soldiers who opened fire used blank bullets. He also disclosed that their colleagues with live rounds were on ground to protect from suspected hoodlums who fomented trouble..

It is an affront or impugnment on Nigeria's sovereignty or judicial processes - Lawyer who sued Nigerian celebrities over #EndSARS protest to sue all CNN staff

  Kenechukwu Okeke, the lawyer who sued Nigerian celebrities over the #EndSARS protest has disclosed that he will be filing a lawsuit against all CNN Africa staff over the documentary on the Lekki toll gate shooting on October 20.    In tweets he shared, Kenechukwu alleged that the documentary is an affront or impugnment on Nigeria's sovereignty or judicial processes.    He also told CNN staff, Stephanie Busari to pull down all #EndSARS artciles on CNN's platform which he described as "contemptuous and preemptive" and also apologise to the Nigerian people, as failure to do so will earn her a criminal suit in accordance with the law.   Kenechukwu added that he will be instituting a criminal contempt proceedings against all staff of CNN Africa for "preemptively and contemptuously pre-judging or prejudicing substantive factual and legal issues outside of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiries."   He t...

Jordan has been crowned People Magazine's 'Sexiest Man Alive' for 2020.   The American actor known for his roles in “Fruitvale Station,” “Creed” and “Black Panther,” was revealed as this year’s winner on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last night.   He appeared on the late-night talk show dressed in a yellow biohazard suit with a helmet.   Nigeria is currently leading in the global asylum claims to Canada despite COVID-19 travel restrictions.    According to Quartz Africa, the number of Nigerians issued permanent residence (PR) permits by the Canadian government has tripled since 2015. In 2019 alone, 12,595 Nigerians were issued the permits.   While those figures are based on people who moved to Canada through its skilled workers immigration program, Nigerians are also taking other paths to move to the North American country.   The publication reported that Nigeria is set to end 2020 with the highest number of finalized asylum claims (i.e claims that were either accepted, rejected, abandoned, or withdrawn) to Canada for the fourth straight year. Don’t expect suspension of strike soon - ASUU tells students and parents

  The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Tuesday November 17, told students and their parents not to expect suspension of its ongoing strike soon.    The union’s Abuja Zonal Coordinator, Prof. Theophilus Lagi made the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja and also told lecturers to seek alternative means of survival.    Lagi who accused the federal government of not showing commitment in resolving the issues that necessitated the ongoing industrial action, further stated that they will continue with the strike until the government bows to the union's demands.   They also accused the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige of turning the wheel of progress backwards by setting ASUU on a collision course with other presure groups in the university.   He said;    “Today, we wish to let Nigerians, especially our students and parents know that there is no hope in sight to ending...

SS2 student kills SS3 student during cult clash between their classes in Akwa Ibom

  The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested one David Joshua Okon, an SS2 student of West Itam Secondary School, Uyo, for allegedly killing an SS3 student, Solomon Bassey, in a cult clash between the two classes.   Disclosing this to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Odiko MacDon, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Amiengheme Andrew, frowned at the moral decadence in some secondary schools and called on parents to inculcate values into their children.   According to MacDon, the proscription order of the State government will be enforced to the letter as it concerns this incident   ''David Joshua Okon, who stabbed and killed one Solomon Bassey, of the same school in a cult-related SS2 and SS3 fight has been arrested ”MacDon said

Dangote emerges most valuable brand for 2020

Nigeria’s inflation hits 14.23 percent as food prices increases

  The National Bureau of Statistics on Monday November 16, released a data which revealed that Nigeria’s inflation rose to 14.23 percent, 0.52 percent higher than the 13.71 percent recorded in September.   According to the data, the core food index rose by 17.38 percent majorly driven by increases in food items. Core inflation also maintained a steady rise to 11.14 percent, from the 10.58 percent reported in August this year.   The bureau said;   "The Consumer Price Index, which measures inflation increased by 14.23 per cent (year-on-year) in October 2020. “This is 0.52 per cent points higher than the rate recorded in September 2020 (13.71 per cent).”   Urban inflation rose to 14.81 percent year-on-year from the 14.31 percent recorded last month, while rural inflation hit 13.68 percent.   Inflation was highest in Zamfara, Sokoto and Ebonyi, while Lagos, Abuja, and Cross River recorded the lowest in October.

Another Covid-19 vaccine breakthrough as Moderna reveals its jab is 94.5% effective

  A new vaccine by Moderna that protects against Covid-19 is nearly 95% effective, the biotech firm has revealed, making it the second vaccine in the United States to have a high success rate.   Moderna  received its results on a call on Sunday afternoon from members of the Data Safety and Monitoring Board, an independent panel analyzing Moderna's clinical trial data.   An interim analysis based on 95 patients with confirmed Covid infections, found the candidate vaccine has an efficacy of 94.5%, the company announced on Monday, November 16th. In the analysis, 90 of the patients received the placebo with the remaining five the vaccine.   The company said its vaccine did not have any serious side effects. A small percentage of those who received it experienced symptoms such as body aches and headaches.   The results suggest the vaccine significantly reduces the risk of people testing positive for coronavirus or getting sick with Covid-19. ...
