  As part of efforts to curb the spread of COVID19 in the state during the second wave of the pandemic, the Ekiti state government has imposed a curfew from 8.00 pm to 6.00 am and as well banned all gatherings of more than twenty people in the state until further notice. These restrictions take effect Monday 6 am January 11, 2021.   The Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Akinbowale Omole, announced these new guidelines in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, January 10.   Wagner College, a private school in the New York borough of Staten Island has revoked an honorary degree given to President Donald Trump.    This is coming after Lehigh University, a private school in Pennsylvania also revoked same degree awarded to Trump in 1988.    Individuals including cabinet secretaries and institutions have distanced themselves from Trump since his supporters vandalized the Capitol and disrupted Congress during Wednesday’s certification of the Electoral College count. A committee of the Lehigh’s board of trustees voted to strip the degree on Thursday January 7, followed by the full board on Friday January 8 according to a statement from the school    Wagner’s trustees on the other hand, met in a special session to review the honorary degree granted to Trump in 2004 and voted to rescind it.   Protesting members of staff of the National Identity Management Commission NIMC have suspended their strike action.   The workers downed tools on Thursday, January 7 to press home their demands for better remuneration as well as the provision of personal protective equipment PPEs to protect against COVID19.   The protesting workers met with the Federal Government earlier today and resolved to call off their strike action.   They are expected to resume work by Monday, January 11 to continue with the ongoing registration of Nigerians for their National Identity Numbers.

  Tony Lopez, one of the popular members of TikTok's Hype House, has been sued for sexual battery after being accused of using his social media platform to "groom" and have sex with two teenage girls in a new explosive lawsuit.   The underage girls, suing under the aliases H.L. Doe and C.H. Doe alleged that 21-year-old Lopez first began communicating with them via text and social media despite knowing they were minors.   Police are on the hunt for a fraudster claiming to work for the NHS after he injected a 92-year-old woman with a fake Covid-19 vaccine.  The City of London police said the victim, a resident of Surbiton, south-west London, had allowed the man into her home on 30 December after he knocked on the door claiming to be an NHS worker distributing the Covid-19 vaccine.  The 92-year-old woman told police that she was jabbed in the arm with a "dart-like implement" and made to pay £160, which the man said would be refunded by the NHS. Authorities said it is not known what substance, if any, was administered, but the woman showed no ill effects after a check at her local hospital.   In the wake of US President Donald Trump’s reaction to a mob of his supporters breaching the US Capitol, the White House Deputy national security adviser, Matt Pottinger has resigned. According to reports, Pottinger told his associates and friends there was very little for him to consider as it was clear it was Trump's words during his Wednesday rally that invited the mob to invade Capitol Hill.   Members of staff of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Lagos State have gone on strike.   According to the striking workers, they decided to take this action to press home their demand for better welfare packages from the government. According to the workers, the recent increase in the number of visitors at their different offices and stations for registration of National Identification Number (NIN) has caused a lot of stress for the workers. The aggrieved workers say they need to be paid more for conducting the exercise which he described as an extra duty.   They also accused the government of not putting in place measures to ensure their safety while carrying out their duties. They decried the lack of protective kits at the office, saying they could get infected with COVID-19 as they attend to hundreds of residents daily.  

  According to new reports, a growing number of Republican leaders and Cabinet officials believe Donald Trump should be removed from office before January 20 and will need Vice-president Mike Pence's help if they are to succeed with the 25th Amendment.  After violent pro-Trump protesters stormed the US Capitol on Wednesday,  four Republicans called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked, and two others said the President should be impeached according to a report by CNN.   Chelsea football club of England have posted a profit of £32.5 million ($44.4m) in their latest financial results.  Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Blues saw their total turnover go down from the previous number of £446.7m ($610.6m) last year to £407.4m ($556.8m) this fiscal year ending June 30 2020. Most of the profit was made from player sales and Champions League qualification.
