COVID-19: Couples must obtain clearance to hold weddings - Lagos government

  Prospective couples have been directed by the Lagos state government to obtain clearance from the Lagos State Safety Commission to hold weddings.   In a notice titled ‘Stay At Home’, couples were directed to hold weddings with not more than 300 people in attendance with prior clearance from the Commission.    It read;    “Weddings and social gatherings must not exceed 300 people with prior clearance from the Lagos State Safety Commission."   Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola who confirmed this in an interview with  Punch , said the state government is concerned about large gatherings and big weddings as the state experiences a spike in the number of Covid-19 cases.   He added that the clearance is free and prospective couples will have to go on the Commission’s website to input the details of their weddings. Gunmen in army uniform assassinate Kogi LG vice chairman's husband

  Gunmen suspected to be assassins have killed Ishaku Gata, husband of the vice chairman of Kogi local government council of Kogi State, Hon. Suspect breaks into warehouse in Kano, steals N8m goods

  The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspect who broke into a warehouse located at Tal'udu Quarters and stole goods worth N8m.     Spokesperson of the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, December 24, said the suspect, Salmanu Mohammed Bashir, 36, confessed to the crime.    The suspect revealed how he damaged the padlock, replaced it with a new one of the same colour and size.    "On the 27/11/2020 at about 1020hrs, a report was lodged that a Hijet Pick-up Motor Vehicle with Reg. Gov Sanwo-Olu asks churches to suspend Crossover services as Nigeria experiences second wave of COVID19

  Following the rising number of confirmed COVID19 cases, the Lagos State government has asked all churches in the state to suspend all-night services, including vigils and crossover services.   As a tradition, Christians across the world usually converge in churches on December 31 at about midnight to pray and usher in the new year.   Speaking to reporters at the State House in Marina, Lagos today December 24, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the curfew imposed by the Federal Government between midnight and 4am daily is still in place and that it doesn't give room for churches to conduct crossover services.   He appealed to all churches to respect the curfew and have their members pray in their homes. “There are not meant to be any gathering. Apple   Inc. is moving forward with self-driving car technology and is targeting to produce a passenger vehicle that could include its own breakthrough battery technology come 2024, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.?   The iPhone maker's efforts to make automobiles, known as Project Titan, have proceeded since 2014 when it first started to design its own vehicle from scratch.   Apple later drew back the effort to focus on software and reassessed its goals.   Doug Field, an Apple veteran who had worked at Tesla, returned to oversee the project in 2018 and laid off 190 people from the team in 2019.?   Since then, Apple has progressed enough that it now aims to build a vehicle for consumers, two people familiar with the effort said, asking not to be named because Apple's plans are not public, according to CNBC.

Kano state govt orders immediate closure of all schools

  Kano State Government on Tuesday ordered the closure of all public and private schools in the state with immediate effect, Mr Sanusi Kiru, Commissioner for Education announced. Kiru, who gave the directive in a statement issued in Kano, urged parents to take their children from their various schools. “Parents whose children are in boarding schools are to also arrange and convey their children/wards back home from Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020. “All inconveniences are regretted, ” the commissioner said. No official reason was given for the directive, which came three days to the end of the third term.

NCC orders telecom operators to block SIM cards without National Identity Numbers(NIN)

This is coming three days after they were arrested in Uganda for allegedly flouting COVID-19 guidelines.   A Nigerian lady has accused the Ugandan state of being discriminatory against Nigerians, amid the standoff sparked by the arrest of Nigerian singers Omah Lay and Tems after their performance in the country.    Recounting how she was denied work visa, @politicofareeda alleged that Ugandan authorities held her passport for 7 months because of an appeal.   A  boy sent heartbreaking last text to his friend before jumping under a train in front of classmates, an inquest was told.   Sam Connor, 14, had "joked" about suicide pacts with pals prior to the tragedy at Chertsey station in Surrey in July 2019.   An inquest at Woking Coroner’s Court heard how the Year 9 pupil had spoken about taking his own life.   Sam Connor with his mother and elder brother   One schoolmate said: "That day (July 15) he had been joking about killing himself but he had done it lots of times before so we thought he was just joking."   The coroner also heard that Sam had texted a pupil to say "I am going for a while, do not forget me" before the incident.   The inquest also heard evidence from several school children who were at the station the day Sam died.     The inquest heard how there was "a lot of confusion and screaming" as the school day had not long ended and scores of pupils were at the ...

  Two women suspected to be kidnappers were burnt to death by an angry mob in Iwo, Osun State on Thursday, December 10.    It was gathered that three persons, one male and two females allegedly kidnapped a 4-year old child at the centre of the market Square called Oja-Oba. The women were caught while the man managed to escape.     The suspects were beaten to pulp before being set ablaze.   The trigger-happy policeman who killed a young Keke Napep ride at Rukpokwu area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers state, has been detained.    Newskoolupdate reported earlier that the policeman was accused of shooting the commercial tricyclist for allegedly refusing to give him N100 bribe in the early hours of today December 10.    Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Nnamdi Omoni who confirmed the incident urged residents to remain calm as justice will be served on the incident.  He added that policemen have been deployed to the area to restore calm and contain a further breakdown of law and order.   Omoni said;    “I am aware of the incident at Rukpoku.
