  Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi could be hit with 12 matches ban after he was sent off in the last minute of Barcelona's Spanish Super Cup final defeat to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday night. The Argentine playmaker was sent off as Barcelona were beaten 3-2 by Athletic Bilbao.   Mesut Ozil has officially confirmed his move to Fenerbahce, bringing to an end his seven-and-a-half year stay at Arsenal.  The 32-year-old German midfielder, who joined the Gunners from Real Madrid in 2013 fell out of coach Mikel Arteta's plans since he took charge in December 2019. He will now join Turkish club, Fenerbahce, on a free transfer after his £350,000-a-week Gunners contract was terminated.     The deal is yet to be officially announced, but Ozil has admitted he is 'very excited' to sign for the club in an interview with Turkish television channel NTV.   'I am a Fenerbahce fan. 10 people have been killed after a bandit attack in Janbako community

  10 people have been killed after a bandit attack in Janbako community of Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.    It was learnt that local vigilantes withstood the bandits who invaded the community by 10.30 am yesterday January 17.   5 out of the 10 people killed were said to be the vigilantes, and four other people were also injured. An eyewitness told The Nation;    “Bandits shot and killed 10 innocent people during the attack while four people sustained gunshot wounds in the village."   Residents of the community appealed to the state and federal governments to deploy more security personnel to the area.

NIN is mandatory for foreign diplomats - FG

  Diplomats who will be resident in the country for more than two years have been directed by the federal government to get the national identity number (NIN).    Femi Adeluyi, technical assistant to minister of communications and digital economy Isa Pantami said in a statement released on Sunday January 17, that an enrollment centre is being set up following a request by Geoffrey Onyeama, minister of foreign affairs.   The statement read;    “The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has approved the setting up of a National Identity Number (NIN) enrolment centre at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “The desk will be set up by Tuesday, 19th of January, 2021. Bobrisky reacts as James Brown's Instagram page gets deactivated

  On Friday January 15, two Nigerian crossdressers James Brown and Bobrisky were at loggerheads about who is more original.   James brown called Bobrisky out on social media stating that Bob sent him a direct message on Instagram asking him to stop copying his content. He also alleged that Bobrisky threatened to kill him Read Bobrisky responded threatening to arrest James for the call out video and James fired back stating that he isn't afraid to go to jail as he's been there before.   Few hours after James responded to Bobrisky's threat, his Instagram page of over 182k followers got deactivated and this prompted other IG users to point accusing fingers at Bobrisky. Conjoined female twins separated at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (photos)

  Cheering news from the University of Ilorin Teaching hospital as a set of conjoined female twins were successfully separated by a team of medical experts on Thursday, January 14.   The babies were separated by a 66-member all Nigerian team of paediatric surgeons, paediatricians, paediatric cardiologist, anaesthetists, cardiothoracic surgeon, nurses, pharmacists, behavioral scientists and many more.     The team was led by Paediatric surgeon, Prof Lukman Abdul-Rahman who is pictured above carrying the babies.   Congrats to the team!

  Manchester United striker, Marcus Rashford has said he regrets not playing for former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson in his career.   Calling it the only 'regret' he has in his career, Rashford praised Ferguson after the legendary manager praised him following his special award at the Football Writers' Association's annual tribute awards on Thursday, January 14.   Lagos state government on Wednesday, January 13, sealed the popular Eko club event center in Surulere for violation of COVID19 protocols.   According to the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Lagos State on New Media, Gawat Jubril, the center was sealed for holding a packed funeral. Pictures shared online showed that the funeral was held in total disregard of COVID19 protocols such as social distancing.   ''Lagos State Safety Commission and the Lagos State Task Force in a joint enforcement exercise, SEALED the Eko Club event centre in Surulere for complete disregard of Covid19 protocols at a funeral event which was held recently at the event centre.''Gawat wrote on Twitter  

Daily Telegraph owner David Barclay dies at 86.

  David Barclay, the British billionaire who owned The Daily Telegraph newspaper and The Ritz hotel, has died aged 86.   He died on Sunday after a short illness, his newspaper reported Wednesday, Jan 13.   Barclay and his twin Frederick, described by the daily as "identical in appearance, lifestyle and often even in dress", built a vast business empire from shipping to retail.     "The Barclay brothers operated as one throughout their active business career while doing their utmost to avoid personal publicity and discourage media scrutiny," the broadsheet added.   Among those paying tribute to David Barclay is a former employee, Prime Minister Boris Johnson.   “Farewell with respect and admiration to Sir David Barclay who rescued a great newspaper, created many thousands of jobs across the UK and who believed passionately in the independence of this country and what it could achieve,” Boris Johnson tweeted.   David Barclay, who died on Sunday, Jan...

  34-year-old Aaron Mostofsky identified as the 'guy wearing animal fur and parading around with a policeman's shield' during the insurrection at the US Capitol last week, has also been identified as the son of a prominent judge in Brooklyn.    Mostofsky was arrested Tuesday January 12 and brought before a Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge Shlomo Mostofsky (not his father). He was released on $100k bail with strict conditions.     The son of the Brooklyn Judge who is facing four counts of theft of government property, illegal entry into a restricted area, illegal entry with intent to impede government functions, and disorderly conduct, was released to the custody of his older brother and was ordered to stay in NYC (unless given permission) and wear an ankle monitor.   He was also forbidden from communicating with his co-defendants, cannot participate in any political gatherings and has to steer clear of all state capitals....

US Department of Homeland Security hires private security for $1.6m for Biden's inauguration

  Ahead of Joe Biden's inauguration as the 46th President of the United States, the North American country's Department of Homeland Security has hired a private security for $1.6m for the event.    Documents obtained by TMZ revealed that the Department of Homeland Security awarded a private security company called Hana Industries Inc. a $1.6 million contract for protective services, effective now until the very end of the month.   It was learnt that Hana's protective security officers will be standing watch in the capital and surrounding areas. The move to hire a private security came directly on the heels of the failed Capitol coup and the contract was awarded 2 days after last week's siege.   Hana which has protected Naval bases and shipyards around Hawaii prior to the new contract, has been recruiting to get more boots on the ground, especially people with 2 to 5 years of military or law enforcement experience and prior certifica...

  Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the President of Portugal has tested positive for Coronavirus as confirmed in a statement shared on the official website of the Portuguese Presidency on Monday night.   The 72-year-old who took office in 2016 and is seeking a second term in the country’s presidential election on January 24, is reportedly asymptomatic. The president is self-isolating in a residential area in Belem, in the west of central Lisbon and has suspended all his agenda for coming days   The president is largely a figurehead in Portugal, where the prime minister and his cabinet are in charge of day-to-day affairs. He wields large influence nevertheless, and he holds the authority to appoint the prime minister and dissolve parliament.

Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote reportedly losses $900 million in just 24 hours

  Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, reportedly lost a total of $900 million within 24 hours on Friday, January 8, after his company Dangote Industries Limited emerged the biggest loser at the end of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.   According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Dangote's wealth reportedly fell from $18.4bn on Thursday to $17.5bn on Friday, making him the 114th wealthiest man in the world, down from 106th the previous day.   The report also showed that Dangote’s net worth had risen from $15.5bn on December 13 to close the year 2020 at $17.8bn. US President-elect Joe Biden to receive second Covid-19 vaccine dose today

  US President-elect, Joe Biden will receive his second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on Monday, January 11, three weeks after his first injection was broadcast live on TV to boost public confidence in the jab.   Mr. Biden, 78, told Americans "there's nothing to worry about" when he got his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine at the Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware on Dec 21.   His transition team said that his second jab would also be done in front of the media, without giving further details.   On Friday, Biden slammed President Donald Trump's administration's troubled distribution of vaccines as a "travesty."   As of Friday, more than 6.6 million first doses of the two vaccines had been administered, according to the nation's health agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).   The United States is the worst affected country in the world with more than 22 million cases and at least 3,74,000 deaths to date. 

Suspected assassins kill Saudi Arabia-based oil expert in his Kogi home

House will proceed with efforts to impeach Trump 'with urgency' - US House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi disclosed

  US House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi has disclosed that the House will proceed with legislation to impeach President Donald Trump as early as this week if Vice President Mike Pence and the cabinet refuse to remove him from office in the wake of the assault on the U.S. Capitol.   Pelosi delivered the ultimatum in a letter to colleagues on Sunday night, describing the president as an urgent threat to the nation.   The House will move forward with a non-binding resolution that calls on Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment, and strip Trump of his presidential authority today, January 11.
